This was an appetizer before the main meal in a small, friendly restaurant we visited in Nieul sur l’Autise, a small town in the Vendée famous for its connection with Eleanor of Aquitaine.

After lunch we visited the Abbey where Eleanor is believed to have been born and where her mother was buried. For anyone interested in French history or medieval history, this is a great place for your itinerary, especially if it’s a warm sunny day and you can take your time wandering around the cloisters and enjoying the fabulous displays.
